What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic was discovered by D.D. Palmer in 1895. Harvey Lillard was talking with D.D. regarding the loss of hearing that he had experienced after a trauma to his spine. D.D. decided that if he was hit from one side, maybe hitting it from the other would help. He gave his first adjustment, and later, Harvey regained his hearing. D.D.'s son, B.J. Palmer later went on to develop new methods to adjust the spine and brought chiropractic to the world. Chiropractors now focus on correcting dysfunctions within the spine known as subluxation. A subluxation happens due to either minor or major trauma. Subluxation can cause pain, but it is not pain that the chiropractor is focused on. Your entire body is controlled by your brain. Your brain communicates through the spinal cord to the rest of the body. If there is pressure put on a nerve caused by swelling in the area, a nerve won't be able to function at optimal potential. This is where chiropractic comes into play. A chiropractor finds the subluxation, accepts where they find it, corrects it with an adjustment, and leaves it alone to heal. With the adjustment, the body has a greater potential to heal itself.
